The blue formula (PTK-1572) provides dependable holding power while remaining easy to remove with standard hand tools. It is a versatile choice for common metal-to-metal threaded connections where vibration resistance is important but routine maintenance and disassembly are still expected. For racers looking for a practical balance between secure fastening and serviceability, blue is an excellent all-around option.

Purple Thread Lock – Light Strength for Small Screws

The purple formula (PTK-1578) is designed for small fasteners, including screws commonly found on 1/24-scale RC vehicles, and applications requiring protection against light vibration. Its light-strength hold helps keep small screws from backing out without making future maintenance unnecessarily difficult. Purple Thread Lock can be removed with standard hand tools, making it ideal for small-scale builds and frequently serviced components.

Orange Thread Lock – High Strength with Easier Removal

The orange formula (PTK-1579) provides high-strength retention for fasteners exposed to heat, such as applications around motors and engines. It offers a stronger hold than light- or medium-strength options while remaining easier to remove than the red maximum-strength formula. Some applications may require heat to loosen the fastener, making orange a useful choice when additional holding power is needed without committing to the most permanent connection.

Red Thread Lock – Maximum Strength for Critical Fasteners

The red formula (PTK-1580) delivers maximum holding strength for critical metal-to-metal connections where a loose screw could cause significant mechanical problems. It is suited to demanding, high-heat applications such as engine mounts, where fastener security is especially important. Removal is difficult and requires direct heat applied to the fastener at approximately 500°F, so red is best reserved for applications where maximum retention takes priority over convenient disassembly.
