Introducing the pre trimmed V2 Hammer Wing by Leadfinger Racing!
Polycarbonate wings have been the subject of debate since their beginning. For a long time, it was the way to go for the 8th scale racing scene. The trend lasted a little over 5 years until some of the manufactures became more competitive with plastic wings. But wait. Polycarbonate is making a comeback again, and over the past year or so we’re starting to see a few new attempts at it. So, let’s go!
Polycarbonate wings have a few great aspects to them. Their lighter than plastic wings by about 12 to 15 grams and even less if their deemed light weight. Because of this they have a lower center of gravity that removes some of the pendulum effect associated with plastic wings. They also help to free up the rear making for a faster race car essentially decreasing laps times. Polycarbonate wings can be tuned by adding or removing the center stabilizer to increase or decrease stability in the air and even change rear traction on the ground. The idea is to tune the car to the wing to unlock better lap times. But there is con to polycarbonate wings. The biggest concern for racers is durability. In fact, a common statement in the past was “I crash too much” or “they only work for pros.” LFR changed that in 2016 with the original Hammer wing as it quickly became known for being the most durable and tunable wing available. Today the Hammer wing is still going strong, and a few competitors continue to use it as a basic footprint for development of their own. So why the attraction to the polycarbonate wing again? Well, when properly used with the right set up, they can outperform plastic wings. Here’s how we did it again with the new V2.
There are 4 new features of the V2 Hammer wing that set it apart from the others. First the original side dams from the V1 have been lowered from 5 mm to 25mm on the V2. By lowering them an additional 20mm we were able to decrease the center of gravity, removing more of the pendulum effect and freeing up the rear of the car even more.
Next was to work on the back of the wing. We did include the option to use holes if you prefer. However, we lowered the wicker on the V2 by 50mm so that you can choose what works best for you. The lower wicker enables you to trim more material out of the trailing edge, again freeing up the rear without sacrificing durability. For even more durability we rounded the back corners prolonging the life of the wing significantly.
Finally, we widened the center of the wing to better fit today's wing brackets. This update was long overdue and our apologies to those having to trim the support tabs to make the older V1 fit. The change also accompanies the use of wider wing stays.
4 solid months of track testing were completed to ensure the durability and quality you can expect from Leadfinger Racing. The new V2 Hammer wing comes pre trimmed and is available in your choice of either smoke or clear.
